Beauty Picks Mini Reviews | May 2016

During May I seem to have bought a fair bits of new makeup. Today I thought I'd share the 'Hits & Misses' from my little spend. There are a few base products to look at, as well as a Matte Lipcolor and Highlighter. So lets get started.....

*HIT* Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor, I've no idea what the shade is called as there is nothing on the label. I can however say it's the nudist shade from the collection of 6 available in the UK. The applicator makes the lipcolor super easy to apply. It dries down fairly quickly but doesn't suck the life out of your lips. They still feel comfortable and moisturised. I personally found I could layer it if areas started to wear off without any clumping problems. This does have a strong fragrance so if that's not your thing I'd stear clear of this liquid lipcolour.

*HIT* Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Loose Powder, 1 Pure Yellow. I purchased this towards the end of May. I was running low of my Nars powder, and this seemed a good replacement. The powder is very finely ground so sits nicely on the skin. The colour is good as it doesn't effect the colour of my foundation or BB cream. So far so good.

*MISS* Maybelline 'The Eraser Eye' Concealer, Light. I'm very disappointed in this eye concealer. I'd read so many positive reviews but it just didn't come upto my expectations. The colour and coverage is good, however the applicator was terrible. Mine didn't twist well so was difficult to get any product out, when you did get product out there was very little so back to twisting again. The other gripe I have is the sponge on the top. There is no easy way to keep it clean so I fear over time it will be a hygeine problem....eewwww.
*HIT* Benefit Dandelion Shy Beam. Now this has quickly became one of my holy grail products. Not a morning has gone by that I haven't popped a little of this on. Shy Bean is a low profile highlighter that contains no shimmer or sparkle. Skin is left with a healthy natural looking glow on the high points of the face. I use mine along the high points of my cheeks, cupids bow and along the brow bone. You need to teeny-tiniest amount so this will last you a long time! L-O-V-E it, thanks Benefit :)

*HIT* NEW Maybelline Master Contour, 01 light. I've only used this a couple of times and so far I'm impressed. The Master Contour has two colours, one to sculpt, one to highlight both of which are a creamy matte finish. The chunky crayon style makes it very easy to use. Simply draw on the areas you want to contour/highlight then blend with your fingers. I have tried blending with a brush but I found I lost alot of colour. I'd certainly make this one to buy next time you'e near a Maybelline supplier.

*HIT & MISS* Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Concealer, Porcelain. Now this is neither a hit or a miss as quite frankly I'm not sure where I stand with this concealer. It's marketed as being a concealer and skincare item in one; concealing whilst combating visible signs of aging. That I was sold at, everyone wants to care for the delicate undereye area. Now although the concealing power of this little product is very good and the colour for me is perfect, I do have a problem with it. I found it creased and moved under my eyes, ending up with enhanced the fine lines I have under my 34 year old lashline.....not cool.  I had been using the Bobbi Brown Loose Powder mentioned above, however I'm going to try with again with a different setting powder and see how I go.

  1. Heyyyy, this is probably the first negative review I've read on that Maybelline concealer! I was really starting to wonder if they bribed the entire beauty world to hype this product, haha. Yeah, the sponge applicator definitely isn't very hygienic.
