Food - Easy Fruit Crumble

In our household we don’t really eat many desserts. We always have yogurts in the fridge and the odd tin of custard but that’s about it. However this recipe is one that always goes down a treat, and is perfect for using up the fruit that really needs to be eaten! Today I’ve made my crumble using the over ripe, left over pears. Please bare in mind this is not a precise recipe, it’s very thrown together but it does work. Just trust your instincts - easy for me to say hehe!

You will need:-
**Saucepan **Wooden Spoon **Mixing Bowl **Knife **Ovenproof Dish
**Fruit **Sunflower Spread **Sugar **Plain Flour **Porridge Oats

The Fruit Mix.
To start with I’ve peeled and diced the pears, then put them in a saucepan on a medium heat with a little sugar (adjust according to taste, takes away any sour/sharp taste the fruit may give off). I normally put a flat tablespoon of demerara sugar in mine, but any sugar will do. On this occasion I discovered some leftover dried apricots and currants in the cupboard, so I threw a handful of those in too. Gently heat until your fruit is soft, this won’t take long when using overripe fruit!
Take off the heat and put your fruit mix into an oven proof dish.

Now for the Crumble.
I always find I create my best crumble when I’m not measuring anything out, instead I just feel the ‘texture’ of the mixture. To make things easier though here’s a rough guide. Oh and don’t forget to remove your jewellery as you’ll be getting your hands dirty!
In a mixing bowl add one generous handful of plain flour, one handful of porridge oats, 2 tablespoons of sugar (again any will do) and a dollop of sunflower spread. Then start rubbing the mixture together. You’re aiming for a crumbly breadcrumb type mix, no lumps of spread. When you’re happy with the ‘texture’, sprinkle over the fruit; I like mine to be about ¾ inch thick. Bake in a preheated oven (180oC fan assisted) for approximately 30 minutes, or until golden and crunchy looking on top. You can always pop a knife into the center to check if it’s heated through.

Serve with cream, custard or ice-cream……...and enjoy x
